RANDAL DOVE
Principal

As founder of the Sage Group in 1987, Randy has played a central role in shaping the firm’s vision, culture, and long-standing presence in the multi-family housing industry.  With a background spanning landscape architecture, planning, and architecture, he has led the design efforts of more than 50,000 multi-family housing units throughout Texas.

He has been involved in the planning and design of several significant projects, including Riata (master planned community – Austin, Texas), Embarcadero (master planned community – Laredo, Texas), The Vineyard (master planned community – Midland, Texas), Fasken Oil & Ranch Headquarters (Midland, Texas), 200 E. Basse (formerly Clear Channel Communications Headquarters) (San Antonio, Texas) and the San Antonio Convention Center Riverwalk Expansion. In 1982, he was a participant in La Biennale de Valencia international architectural exhibit for participation in the proposed design of Safa City in San Antonio, Texas..

Mr. Dove is a 1977 graduate of Texas Tech University and holds a Bachelor of Landscape Architecture degree and currently is licensed in the states of Texas.  In the past he has served as the ASLA (American Society of Landscape Architects) Chairman of the San Antonio Section as well as the ASLA Texas Chapter Executive Board.

JAMES RAHE
Principal

Mr. Rahe joined the Sage Group in 2002, and directs the activities of Sage Architecture. His experience includes extensive work in multi-family housing, single family residential, institutional, corporate programming and interior design.

He has been involved with several significant projects, including the programming, interior design and architecture for Tesoro Petroleum. He worked as part of Tesoro’s expansion efforts in San Antonio, Long Beach, Denver, Minneapolis, Salt Lake City, London, England and Edmonton, Alberta. He has developed a long list of distinguished residential projects – including single-family homes and multi-family residential development. In addition, he participated in the design and development of several notable projects – including Alamo Heights Methodist Church, the Student Dormitory at Brooks AFB and the high school at Lackland AFB. Mr. Rahe graduated from Kansas State University in 1984, and holds a Bachelor of Architecture degree. He is currently licensed to practice in the states of Texas, Oklahoma and Mississippi, and is accredited with the National Council of Architectural Registration Boards (NCARB). He is also a registered Interior Designer in the State of Texas.

AUSTIN DOVE
Principal | Director of Landscape Architecture

Austin joined the Sage Group in 2005, and manages the general activities of the Landscape Architecture department.

With a portfolio of extensive work in multi-family housing, commercial, retail, and industrial design projects, he has served a key role on projects statewide in Texas including the San Antonio, Austin, Houston, Midland, and South Texas areas.

Austin graduated from Texas Tech University in 2005 with a Bachelor of Landscape Architecture and is licensed in the state of Texas.  Other involvement includes past service on the ASLA South Texas Section committees and being an active member of ULI San Antonio.

Bob Newell
Principal

Mr. Newell joined Sage Architecture in 2021 with over 20 years of experience in multi-family, restaurant, retail and mixed-use project types.

His expertise in these sectors adds value to the Sage Architecture team as he has provided architectural design, production and construction administration for multi-family affordable housing projects, high-end restaurant chains like Flemings Prime Steakhouse & Wine Bar, Paul Martin’s American Grill, Bob’s Steak & Chophouse and Trulucks Seafood, Steak and Crab House. Additionally, Mr. Newell has extensive experience in mixed-use/retail projects. Mr. Newell graduated from the University of Texas at Arlington with a Bachelor of Architecture degree in 1995. He is a licensed architect in Texas and California and is a Veteran of the United States Air Force.

BERNARD MURGUIA
Senior Associate Architect

Mr. Murguia joined Sage Architecture after a 31-year career at the firm Hesson Andrews Sotomayor, at which he served as the Vice President of Production. His fast knowledge of building technology contributes to the firm’s reputation as a leader in technical competence.

Mr. Murguia has been appointed as the production project architect for more than $25 million of construction at Sea World of Texas including; Shamu Stadium, Meadows Amphitheater, Joplin Plaza, Baseball and Boardwalk, and several support structures. Additionally, he worked on projects that include Alamo Heights United Methodist Church, Harris Middle School, Lackland I.S.D. Media and Education Center, and City of San Antonio police stations.
